Architects: SHOVK | Ruslan Lytvynenko, Anton Verhun
Area: 208 sq. m
Location: Kyiv, Ukraine
Project year: 2025
This project was born at the intersection of two elements – the ocean and the desert. Despite their contrast, they harmoniously intertwine within the space, creating a sense of calmness and scale. Another source of inspiration was the aesthetics of science fiction, particularly the world of Dune, which is reflected in the raw, monumental forms and the mysterious atmosphere of the interior.
The main idea of the project is a pure space with a minimal number of materials and details. Concrete and sand-toned plaster became the foundation of the interior, complemented by accents of travertine, stainless steel, and wood. Simple, monolithic volumes are balanced by rounded corners and trapezoidal cuts, giving the forms a subtle plasticity. The spaces flow smoothly into one another, and thanks to panoramic windows, the landscape becomes an extension of the interior. As a symbol of connection with nature, live trees are integrated into the design – one in the living room and another in the bedroom.
The house is devoid of traditional décor: all technical elements are hidden – from switches and sockets to lighting, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This “invisible engineering” became one of the key challenges of the project, requiring meticulous attention to detail to preserve the purity and integrity of the space.
Among the main highlights are the skylights that fill the rooms with soft diffused light, a six-meter travertine kitchen island, the Davide Groppi Moon pendant lamp in the office, and Vitra chairs with a mirrored finish that add a futuristic touch.
The result is a space where tranquility and silence prevail, yet the strength of forms and materials is strongly felt. The house resembles a modern refuge set amidst vast landscapes, where nature, architecture, and technology exist in perfect harmony.
