The museum is situated in the battery of Capo d`Orso, which is already a landmark, so we aimed to emphasize a military historical background. The best way to follow this idea was to build as little as possible inside the fortification area. Therefore, we focused on the pedestrian route that leads visitors throughout the museum.
Although there are all the necessary functional zones around the museum such as hotel, info point, restaurant, library, military memorial – the old part of the buildings remains almost untouchable in all its beauty. The old warm stones of the fortress complement the rough steel, mysterious inside spaces underscore outstanding sea views.
Thinking on how to amplify the contrast between ancient and modern and how to make people interact with the area, we decided to implement AR technologies. Consequently, visitors will have an opportunity to feel the power of time by reconstructing the view of Batteria di Capo d`Orso as it looked like in the past.
